10.2.19 Complex structural heart interventions are increasingly being performed using catheter-based access to repair or replace dysfunctional valve structures. For these minimally invasive procedures, ideal outcomes can only be achieved using a strategy of maximum non-invasive imaging.Today, multi-modality imaging can be displayed on standard 2D monitors; reprocessed and combined with augmented images (digital modeling; or repurposed into life-size physical models through a process of 3D printing (physical modeling). We will discuss current day applications for both digital and physical cardiac modeling, review the limitations of each, and describe ongoing research efforts to replicate the biomechanical tissue properties of patient-specific heart valve models.
