To achieve its mission, the center supports the following five pillars: Specialized health care and wellness education for performing and visual artists; Effective and meaningful integration of the performing and visual arts into the hospital environment; Creative arts therapy in support of clinical patient and hospital goals; Research that seeks to harness the broadest potential of the arts in therapy, rehabilitation and human performance; and Education and Outreach that connects the arts in health field across disciplines.
The Center was founded in 1996 by C. Richard Stasney MD to support its first pillar, artist health, for without healthy artists living and working in our community the arts would not exist. Today, the artist health pillar encompasses a specialized collaboration of more than 100 physicians, therapists and trainers working to address the specific demands placed on artists. Our talented providers care for the elite artists of the Houston Symphony, Houston Ballet, Houston Grand Opera, and other performing artists from around the globe, while providing the same outstanding care to all of the patients they serve.
