The coronary artery calcium (CAC) score is a guideline-endorsed tool for further risk assessment in the primary prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Miguel Cainzos-Achirica, MD, PhD, MPH, will discuss his recent and upcoming research on novel roles that CAC may have in the primary prevention of CVD, including its utility guiding a personalized, safe use of low-dose aspirin and add-on other medications in highest risk primary prevention individuals. He also will discuss enriching randomized controlled trials of novel pharmacotherapies in the primary prevention setting. Finally, he will explain the potential role of coronary computed tomography angiography in the youngest adults at increased average CVD risk.
